Landscape
The Pupplinger Au region is one of the last wild river areas in Germany with a unique fauna. In the center of the lovely small town of Wolfratshausen are rich green belts, walk ways and tree covered avenues. The mountain forest opens to a pictorial view of the summits of the Karwendel and Wettersteingebirge. Near Geretsried nature and landscape protection areas lure with bird refuge areas.
Culture
In addition to rafting facilities in Wolfratshausen one should visit the “Bergwaldtheater” : This summer open air stage with nearly 1,000 seats is romantically situated over the roofs of the village. The theater offers classical concerts and a venue for conventions. Village fests and fairs are well worth a visit, as are small art and traditional music presentations, the history path and the local history museum. And finally, Geretsried also offers among other things, the very interesting village Dorfschmiede (village blacksmith smith) Gelting.
Recreation and health
A Japanese garden, trekking and cycle tracks, kayak facilities, bathing, roller blading through the Pupplinger Au, the recreational park fairy tale forest and endless green belts in the city all this in Wolfratshausen for your pleasure. And a swimming pool in Geretsried as well as the Bibisee in Königsdorf -Wiesen provide a well deserved cooling on hot days.
Restaurants
As variedly as nature and the recreation areas is also the culinary landscape: Above all the traditional dishes such as Schweinshaxn or Kalbshaxn arouses everyone’s appetite. Enjoy fresh Isar fish or a hearty in- between meals snack with hearty sausage specialties. For those who prefer something sweet, we recommend original Wolfratshausen nougat Busserl.
Stops for refreshment and meals
Sights
From the Pupplinger Au, a trip is to the Starnberger See is also highly recommended (see also by the Muehltal). For an extensive swimming visit, sailing , surfing or simply for sunning the recreation area Ambach is ideal in the community of Muensing for example. Also, a visit of the secretive King Ludwig memorial place in the mountains or a journey to the recently reopened Roseninsel is always an experience.
