Route-Details: To a large extent on asphalted cycle tracks, light to moderate upward gradients. Along the west bank 20 km, along the east bank only 15 km with a slight difference in elevation.
Landscape
The highly transparent Tegernsee (6 km long, 2 km broad) is framed by the foothills of the Alps with their lush meadows and the Mangfall mountain ranges. It is an absolute highlight of the Bavarian Oberland region
Culture
The cultural offers are as imposing as the mountain ranges: In Gmund the baroque parish church and the local history museum in the Jagerhaus are worth a visit. In Tegernsee the former Benedictine monastery and today’s Braeustueberl) as well as e.g. the Olaf Gulbransson Museum, which is dedicated to the Norwegian caricaturist and “Tegernseer” by choice. Around the lake there are numerous celebrations such as the concerts, which take place in the castle, theatre festivals, traditional costume and mountain pioneer meetings. One finds peace and relaxation, then again in the carriage, sleigh and sled museum in Rottach – Egern or you may wish to visit the parish church St Laurentius in Egern, on the south bank of the Tegernsee.
Recreation and health
Gmund is a recreation and leisure area, Rottach Egern and Tegernsee are climatic health resorts; Bad Wiesee has a therapeutic spa. The offers are accordingly versatile: From Ayurveda, to magnetic field therapy, to Thalasso there is everything here for fitness and beauty. A leisurely walk around the lake allows one to come into closer contact with the soul. There are opportunities to relax on the beach and experience open-air swimming pools around the Tegernsee, during a sea-tour travel with ship, engine or rowing boat or in the iodine sulfur bath in Bad Wiesee.
Dining
Health comes from within, and in accordance native, fresh fish specialties as well as light poultry dishes are excellent choices. And for those who want to dine more opulently, a large array of strudel dishes is available, or you may wish to relax in one of the many beer gardens.
